Shopping Local This Black Friday

I’m sure you’ve heard it before but shopping local is more important than ever as our local businesses struggle to survive this pandemic. Here are some tips and things to be aware of when shopping local.

Whether you’re looking for something specific or not, skip the big box stores and head straight to your local shops. Of course, not in person this year, but head to their websites and social media accounts for details on their promotions.

Smaller shops and makers cannot necessarily carry the same amount of stock as larger stores so start early so you don’t miss out on the item you’re eyeing.

A lot of local businesses had to rush to get online shops up and running due to the pandemic. Please be patient and kind if you encounter things like slower load times or other online issues. Know that they are working hard in the background to make it the best experience possible.

Did you know that it costs roughly $12 to ship a 5”x5”x2” box within the city of Winnipeg? I know shipping charges can be a huge deterrent for some so I thought I’d show you the true cost that the small business has to pay and why, in most cases, they need to charge shipping. Most small businesses also offer a local pick up option which waives the shipping costs so that’s a great way to save you both some expenses if you live in the same city/town.

TIP: If you opt for local pick up, plan your trip and do all the pick ups in one day!

#7 – ENJOY!

Complete your purchase and wait for all the goodies to arrive or to be ready for pick up!

That’s my list! I hope this helps you with your local shopping adventures 🙂

If you’re new to shopping local and not sure where to start, you’re always welcome to send me an email or DM on Instagram and I’ll be happy to help!
